CDL Class A Behind the Wheel Training
To get a Class A license, you typically need to meet age and residency requirements, pass a written knowledge test, and obtain a commercial learner’s permit (CLP). After holding the CLP for a required period, you must complete a CDL training program or gain supervised driving experience before taking the skills test, which includes a pre-trip inspection, basic control maneuvers, and an on-road driving test. Once you pass the skills test and meet any additional state-specific requirements, you will receive your Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Obtaining a Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) begins with meeting the state’s age and residency requirements, followed by passing a written knowledge test to obtain a commercial learner’s permit (CLP). With the CLP, applicants must complete the necessary training and gain supervised driving experience before taking the CDL skills test, which includes a pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control, and an on-road driving evaluation. Upon successfully passing the skills test and meeting any additional state requirements, the applicant is issued a Class B CDL, allowing them to operate commercial vehicles such as buses and box trucks.
